Šavle a mašle

A cutlass (šavle) is a curved sword of the type used by Barbary pirates and Turks fighting the crusaders. In America, a Cutlass is a type of Buick automobile. If you drink too much in America, you can be said to be „driving the buick“, (pronounced „bee-youuuu-ick“ as in vomiting). Here you can „throw the cutlass“, or „hodit šavli“.
Now of course you can also „hodit se mašli“, or throw yourself on the ribbon. But this phrase is useful only once, when you are committing suicide. So please, just because you find yourself in the position to „hodit šavli“ don’t despair. It will pass with time and you don’t have to „hodit si mašli“ to cure this painful condition.
