One of my favorite saturday morning cartoons was always Tweety Bird. This cute chick would always outsmart the cat, Silvester, who wanted to make him (or her?) dinner. Here in the lovely snow covered Czech Republic in 2005, I still like Silvester, but not because it has anything to do with cats. “Silvestr” is an old Czech name, and like most of them has a name day associated with it. It’s day is the thirty first of December. So the New Year’s Eve parties here are known as “silvestr”. Still, just maybe, if I drink enough Becherovka and Absynthe, I’ll see Tweety Bird after all.
