The Czech rock band Zluty Pes (Yellow Dog) has a number of explanations for its name. One story says they were discussing what to call their band when they saw a yellow dog on the road. Another claims they are named after the old yellow communist police cars. In English, a “yellow dog” is a despicable person. A “yellow dog contract” prohibits the employee from joining a labor union. The “yellow dog Democrats” are so loyal to the Democratic Party that they would even vote for a yellow dog if it is a Democrat. Either way, I give my vote to Žlutý Pes, not because they are Democrats but because they play good music.
